Sarah Starr teaches fifth grade English at Diadem Christian Academy in the desert town of Crane City, California. Adam, her husband, is pursuing a masters in biblical studies when both learn troubling news. Chelsea, their daughter, claims Dr. Roger Bunyan, Jr, founder of Diadem Baptist College and pastor of their church, has molested her.

Sarah and Adam want to do the right thing by scripture. Instead of withdrawing her from Diadem Christian Academy, they keep Chelsea at DCA to teach her that Christians can resolve their conflicts in a godly manner.

Victory Christian Academy was a girls home in Ramona, CA. Children were made to do construction work at the home. One died as a result. The women return to plant a tree in memory of their fallen school friend, and to share with others who have been victimized, harmed, or worse at some of these facilities.

The current proprietors of the property allowed the women to walk through the facilities and remember.

The teen behavioral modification industry is a billion dollar business, largely unregulated, leaving a trail of human wreckage in its wake. Some claim to have been helped through unlicensed boys and girls homes but a growing amount of survivors are stepping forward with their accounts.

I know the internet has evolved into more than a hobby for geeks.  Unfortunately, I meet a number of people, usually my age or above*, who still treat the internet like a time waster.   Nevertheless, these last three years have demonstrated to me that the internet is a valuable tool which has increased my social structure, given me new jobs I never would have dreamed about, and helped me make a difference in tangible ways that resulted in a lead story of a news broadcast, and a two page article in the Sunday supplement edition of a local newspaper.

My concern was that all this was accidental.  Plus, during the grand saga of using the internet as a social networking tool, I also made serious breaches in etiquette that I was not aware of until I read Brogan’s book.

One of the more serious breaches had to do with deleting posts.  The main reasons I deleted posts on one blog had to deal with the aftereffects of feeling I hit ‘below the belt’.  A few times, I received a request from people whom I wrote about to remove the blog.  Normally, I’d keep it up, but in the rare case where the person was clearly not a public figure, I decided to remove the blogs.

It turns out, this is a ‘no no’ in the blogosphere and now, it seems, in the publishing industry. Social Media 101 references internet posts in it’s footnotes.   Wingnuts by John Avlon, which centers around the conservative and liberal fringe, relies heavily on internet posts for the footnotes.

So, properly chastened, I’ll have to think twice before posting, or removing, anything on or off the internet.  Especially, if there’s a chance that something I wrote might be footnoted in somebody else’s study.

Social Media 101 is a pandora’s box of resources for bloggers who want to use the internet to either increase their business, or just expand their social horizons.  Everything from video blogging, the giving of comments (besides a simple ‘me, too’ post) are covered in this book.  I was not aware of on-line photo and video editing software that’s currently available.

A little stretched for money to buy Adobe Photoshop?  Not a problem!  Check out lunapic or picnik to make your banners or animated gifs.  Video shortcuts are also included in this book.

Social Media 101 is a resource I definitely recommend.  For those who are established in their menial day labor jobs, best wishes!  Those of us who need to adapt to the changing times, though, will have much valuable advice in this book.

I am not a fundamentalist nor do I live in Walkertown!

My last name happens to be Walker. I chose the name Walkertown for my domain activities back in 1996.

I never even knew that Walkertown, North Carolina existed! I’ve never been to Walkertown, North Carolina, although if I ever find my way into that area, it will certainly make for a nice photo op next to their ‘welcome’ sign.

I have lived in the Los Angeles area since 1989. Most of my time was spent making videos that some would label ‘underground’, ‘garage cinema’, or, in these days, ‘viral’.

The most vital part of my work concerned interviews with notable personalities including Steve Allen (founder of The Tonight Show), Hyapatia Lee (1980′s adult film legend), Bela Lugosi, Jr. (son of Bela Lugosi), Sara Karloff (guess who her father is?), Melanie Shatner (ditto for Karloff and Lugosi), and a number of fringe personalities including Mike Diana, the first cartoonist thrown in jail for his drawings.

I have published two books, Spring Break Missionaries and The Heretics of Hollywood.

My home is in Long Beach, CA, where I am just beginning to compile and make my work available for download and internet sales.

You just caught me as I’m starting out on wordpress. I really like how wordpress is designed. It doesn’t cut off my photographs like blogger.com did. I love how easy it is to insert links and images. Plus, no one has claimed the name ‘walkertown’ yet for their blogs!
